Hello storytellers,
As promised a while ago, we are open sourcing our platform. A first version is now available at http://storytlr.googlecode.com with a detailed set of instructions on how to install.
With this code, you can host your own storytlr on your own server (or on a shared hosting environment). By default, it is setup as a single user mode, but you can easily change it to a multi user host and therefore reproduce the exact service we are hosting on the current storytlr.com.
We release the code under an Apache 2 license, which is non restrictive. This means that you can do anything with this, even create a successful business :-)
If you have questions, issues or ideas, please post them on the mailing list. We will do our best to monitor and answer them. We also count on your help to provide support to other users having trouble installing.
We are looking forward to your feedback and plan to keep on working on this in the next weeks to bring it to a stable 1.0 release.
Thanks a lot for your ongoing support and tweets,
Cheers,
-Laurent and Alard
I tried to install it on localhost
The specified cache directory (/tmp) does not exist.
Where should I create that tmp folder. I tried to create in the storytlr root and in /protected but it doesnt't work :(
I think advocates for open source are really advocates for consulting services. You either grok it or hire someone who does.
After a few bugs have been fixed it should be a simple case of extracting the files from a .zip and following 6 simple instructions!
I have installed it at my site at ddevnet {dot} net (there are too many spammers here to safely just give you the normal URL).
Also, because of the way Storytlr works if I wanted to set up an instance and invite random people I easily can - I could even convert my current site to be a multi-user install in just a minute of work!
I can compile my own Apache, perl and PHP with OpenSSL etc from source ... and yet after a week screwing with storytlr I don't have a working install. The storytlr discussion group has not helped much with information either. I hope you can understand my frustration.
